Friends of Food
Everyone eats. From the time you are born until you die, your body needs nutrition. And so, we eat. Sometimes we eat well. Sometimes we make choices that are not so wise. But everyday, we eat.
The WV Farm2u Collaborative honors this dependence on food by working with area farmers to improve their access to the consumers through markets, restaurants, school programs and more. Heritage cooking festivals celebrate the special cultural history found in Appalachia surrounding the traditional recipes that developed here and their modern adaptations.
In order to continue its many programs, WVFarm2u sponsors several fundraisers and the Friends of Food dinner at Charleston’s Berry Hills Country Club was held Monday, October 29.
A memorable meal was presented by five chefs and their teams:
Chef Dale Hawkins, Fish Hawk Acres – Antipasto Salad Smorgasboard
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Chef Tim Urbanic, Café Cimino – Mediterranean Shrimp Appetizer
`~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`Chef Oscar Aguilar, DiOGi’s – Soup
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Chef Nick McCormick, Berry Hills Country Club – Entrée – Filet of Beef
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Culinary Institute at Mountwest College – Assorted Desserts
It was clearly apparent by the smiling faces and the emptying wine glasses that the evening was a grand success for all who attended and enjoyed!
Glad to see the weather didn’t appear to dampen the festivities.
It really started during the night, so we were safety home.
